Biography

Josefin grew up in Espoo, outside of Helsinki. Ever since she was little she had a passion for music, she sang before she could speak. Growing up she was active in various children’s choirs and at the age of 12 she got her first lead as Pippi Longstocking at Finns Sommarteater (summer theatre).

At the age 13-16 the interest for pop music grew and Josefin was active in a show group and wrote her own songs. She was 14 years old when she competed in the Melodi Grand Prix. A year later she started working as a demo- and background singer for the record company, Helsinki Records. 2011 she worked as a back-up singer in the Euroviisut, semifinal and final.

She found musical theatre in her first year of high school when she played Mimi in the musical Rent, Tadam at Sandels Musik- och Kulturskola. After that, the goal was set on musical Theatre and she participated in the courses “West End Stage” in London and “Acting for Musical Theatre: Summer School: Guildhall School of Music and Drama”.

After finishing high school Josefin got employed by Åbo Svenska Teater as ensemble for their production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Josefin was then the youngest ensemble member.

In 2014 Josefin begun her studies in musical theatre at Balettakademien in Gothenburg, Sweden. During her education Josefin i.a. played Claire in Ordinary Days and wrote the script for the school’s Christmas production at the City Theatre in Gothenburg.

Josefin got accepted to the musical theatre (BFA) programme at the Academy of Music and Drama. During her education she has trained for teachers such as, Nina Norblad, Annika Zajac, Per Nordin, Jennie Rydén, Mattias Palm, Monica Milocco, Malin Zaki, Michael Howell and many more. She has also taken extra dance classes outside of school at Danzlagret in Gothenburg for i.e. Julian Thomas, Anna G. Jansson and others.

In the fall of 2018 she did her internship in On the Town at Spira, Smålands Musik och Teater – directed by Roine Söderlund – where she played Lucy Schmeeler and cover Claire.

I her final-production, at the Academy of Music and Drama spring 2019, she played the part as Marmee in the musical Little Women, directed by Ola Hörling.

Before even graduating, Josefin was offered the role of Mary Poppins at Svenska Teatern in Helsinki, directed by Markku Nenonen. The production was praised by both critics and audiences.

Fresh out of undergrad Josefin played the part of Esmeralda in the Finnish premiere of The Hunchback of Notre Dame at the Tampere city Theatre, directed by Georg Malvius.

In early 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the theatres Josefin seized the opportunity to focus on her own music. Together with music producer Toivo Hellberg she recorded her first EP that was released in 2021.

The same year Josefin played Meg Giry in two sold out performances of Love Never Dies at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.

Before moving to New York for her graduate studies Josefin starred in the music comedy Forever Young (Evigt Ung), directed by Adde Malmberg. She also played Rizzo and understudied Sandy in the arena production of Grease.
