Den 27-28.4 är det dags för en helgintensiv i musikal, en kurs jag kallar för Crash course i musikal, som jag ska hålla i och leda. Syftet med kursen är att unga från 15 år och upp ska få en inblick i vad musikal är och vad det innebär att studera musikal. Musikalhistoria, info om olika utbildningar, auditiontips och självklart dans och sånginterpretation.
Idén och vilja att skapa något som den här kursen har funnits i mig länge. Ändå sedan jag började studera musikal själv har jag funderat över hur jag skulle skapa den perfekta musikalutbildningen. Haha, en rätt svår nöt att knäcka. Jag har även upptäckt efter att jag jobbat som danslärare och coachat både i sång och teater, att få dela med mig av det jag kan, mina idéer och att hjälpa andra vidare är något jag finner stor passion i.
Mycket ligger nog också i att jag själv fick skapa min egen musikalutbildning i gymnasieåldern. Då inga musikalgymnasier eller teatergymnasier fanns tillgängliga började jag på kvällsgymnasiet för att få mer tid över åt att ta dansklasser och sångklasser. Jag jobbade även privat med en regissör för teaterlektioner. Det valet och den driftigheten har nog till stor del format den jag är idag, vilket jag är oerhört tacksam för. Det lärde mig mycket om att tänka utanför boxen, våga ta egna beslut och ta eget ansvar för vart jag ville att vägen skulle ta mig.
Men jag ser en stor problematik i att jag “behövde” göra så. Att det inte fanns någon professionell som kunde vägleda mig i vad jag behövde göra och fokusera på för att nå mina drömmar och mål inom musikal. Därför vill jag dra mitt strå till stacken för den framtida finländska musikalscenen. Om jag kan hjälpa och stöda några av våra framtida stjärnor på deras väg mot sina drömmar kan jag sova gott om natten.
On the 27-28th of April it’s time for a weekend intensive in musical theatre, I course I call Crash course in Musical Theatre. The aim with the course is to give young, from 15y and up, an insight in what musical theatre really is and what it means to study musical theatre. Musical theatre history, info about educations, audition tips and of course dancing and singing interpretation are on the schedule.
The idea and the will to create something like this have been in me for long. Ever since I myself started to study musical theatre I’ve been pondering about how I would create the perfect musical theatre education. Ha-ha, well that’s a hard nut to crack. I’ve also found after working as a dance teacher and coaching in both singing and acting, that to get to share my skills, my ideas and to help and guide others forward is something I find great passion in.
Another explanation lies in that I had to create my own musical theatre programme when I was in high school (gymnasium). Since there were no high schools with a musical theatre programme (at least not in Swedish) I decided to switch to the evening high school to have more time over for taking dance classes and singing lessons. I also worked with a director for private acting classes. The choice and the drive in me have formed who I am today, which I’m entirely grateful for. I taught me about thinking outside the box, daring to make my own decisions and taking responsibility for where I wanted the road to take me.
But I find it problematic that I “had” to go that way. That there was no one professional who could guide me in what I needed to do and focus on to reach my dreams and goals in musical theatre. That’s why I want to contribute to the future Finnish musical theatre stages. If I can help and support some of our future stars on their way to reach their dreams, I know I will sleep well at night.
